Chutney, Jam and Goodness Galore!

PTS01
Preserving the Skills demonstration

Once again the weather proved less than co-operative but that has nothing to do with the chutney, jam, and pastry making that happened Saturday in the Main Hall of the Chestermere Recreation Centre.
Rhubarb chutney, lemon peach and ginger chutney, rhubarb citrus ginger jam, rhubarb strawberry vanilla pie, mint chutney, cilantro-mint chicken curry, and apple pie pastry – all of these recipes were provided as printouts for everyone.
Participants of this canned goods fest crowded attentively around a table as Pat and Rosemary, a few of the instructors, went through measuring demonstrations and then started everyone off on their own ingredient gathering missions.
Even the younger generations tried their hand at making home preserves.
Preserves that were made Saturday might even be entered in the Chestermere Fall Fair in September. One or two could even win first prize. So keep your eyes peeled this September – yours could be a winner!
This was a great opportunity for members of the community to gather and practice techniques and recipes that have been passed down through the years; bringing a little old-fashioned to our modern world.
