The Langdon Community Association is asking parents to help shape the future of youth recreation through a public survey on a proposed indoor soccer program. The survey, which closes Friday, August 15, will gauge interest in local participation, preferred age groups, location options, and whether families are looking for recreational or competitive play.
If launched, the initiative would be delivered in partnership with the Foothills Soccer Association and the Calgary Foothills Soccer Club, two well-established organizations in Alberta’s soccer community. The goal is to provide more accessible options for young athletes in Langdon, reducing the need for families to travel into Calgary for programming.
Indoor soccer has consistently ranked high among activities desired by Langdon residents. A 2022 feasibility study conducted for Rocky View County highlighted the demand for indoor recreation, identifying soccer, basketball, and other gymnasium-based sports as priorities for the growing community. With Langdon’s population projected to surpass 13,000 in the coming years, the need for expanded youth recreation programs has become increasingly urgent.
Currently, many families must travel to Calgary’s Soccer Centre or other regional facilities for access to indoor soccer leagues. A locally run program would not only offer convenience but also strengthen community engagement and keep more recreation dollars within Langdon.
The proposed program is slated to begin as early as this fall if there is sufficient interest. The survey will provide the data needed to determine age brackets, facility usage, and the scale of programming.
For Langdon, the project could represent a significant step in building the foundation for more robust community recreation. Whether it evolves into a full league or begins as smaller-scale programming, organizers say the key is ensuring it reflects what local families want.
Parents and residents are encouraged to complete the survey before the August 15 deadline, as their feedback will play a decisive role in shaping the future of youth soccer in Langdon.
