Chestermere welcomed the start of the holiday season in glowing style last weekend as the Winter Lights Festival returned to John Peake Park on Friday, November 29. Running from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., the annual celebration drew families from across the city for an evening filled with lights, festivities, and community spirit.
The event’s highlight — the lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. — transformed the lakeside park into a sparkling winter landscape, officially marking the beginning of Chestermere’s seasonal celebrations. Excitement continued throughout the evening with fire spinners, stilt walkers, and entertainment designed for all ages.
Families enjoyed wagon rides, the popular Lil Toot Train, and visits with Santa Claus, who posed for photos inside City Hall. Residents lined up for two photo sessions, with all proceeds from the $5 prints going directly to Gifts of Kindness, the city’s community-support fund assisting residents in times of crisis.
The festival also featured a bustling holiday market, giving attendees a chance to shop local while supporting small businesses. Vendors included favourites such as The Treat Factory, Snowy Owl Creations, White Rabbit Arts, PeiPei Handmade, and Grammy’s Jammies, offering everything from wreaths and baked goods to handmade jewelry, bath products, décor, and 3D-printed creations.
Food trucks kept visitors warm and well-fed, with YYC Mini Donuts, Canadian Bear Bars, The Dog Father, and Hungry Hero serving festival favourites throughout the evening.
The night concluded with fireworks at 8 p.m., lighting the sky above the lake and bringing the festival to a dazzling close.
The Winter Lights Festival has become one of Chestermere’s most cherished seasonal traditions, offering residents a chance to connect, celebrate, and support local makers as the holiday season begins.
