9th Annual Early Learning & Childcare Conference

Understanding childhood emotions and anxiety

You’ve heard it more than once, that it takes a village to raise a child. But something that true, deserves repetition. Kidz 1st Network Parent Link Centre in Chestermere provides parents, caregivers, and their children with supports to ensure that children come to school ready to learn, and ensures parents have the supports needed to help their children develop and fulfill their potential. Parents will be able to access information about community services, obtain referrals, and meet other parents, children, and families, while taking part in quality early learning activities.
It is with all those things in mind that the Kidz 1st Network Parent Link is proud to host their 9th Annual Early Learning & Childcare Conference on Saturday October 24, 2015. This conference is geared for anyone who cares for a child. Whether you’re a parent, grandparents, day home provider, teacher or foster parent – the folks at Parent Link invite you to come and participate in this conference where you’ll learn valuable pieces of information that may help you raise the child in your life.
This year’s conference is addressing the topic of understanding the emotions children can experience when going through separation anxiety. It today’s society, children are constantly faced with increased separation from their parents and caregivers; and often, their responses to this separation can be misunderstood. You may have experienced this with a child in your life…perhaps leaving for a night out and your little one has a complete melt down with the babysitter or something similar when they are dropped off at daycare or school.
This conference is about providing insight into the relationships children have with parents and caregivers. Participants will leave with an understanding of attachment and how to deal with a child that is going through something like this.
The keynote speaker is Janet Arsenault – a registered Clinical Social Worker in Calgary who works as a mental health therapist in the area of school-based mental health. With 15 years’ experience of working with children, teens and their families in a variety of different settings including schools, community and forensic mental health she will definitely be able to send parents and caregivers away from the conference with some valuable information.
The registration fee for the conference is $70 and that also includes continental breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack. The event is held at the Prince of Peace Banquet Hall from 8:30am – 4pm and the event is filling up quickly so if you’d like to register please contact Parent Link at 403-207-7050 or avo@chestermere.ca
